During my Peace Corps placement in Donetsk, Ukraine, I worked at the Donetsk State University. My Ukrainian counterpart Olena Bikla, a sociology instructor at Donetsk State University, and I applied for and were approved for a SPA (Small Project Assistance) grant through Peace Corps. The grant is to help establish a Center for social service staff training, social research in the community and resources for social work students at the University. This educational effort will be a step forward in the development of civic society in Ukraine.
Olena and students
The development of the Center is truly worthwhile. This is a wonderful opportunity for international cooperation and support as well as showing that many Americans value the development of education in a strong, independent Ukraine.
